Sypes Canyon Autumn

An oil on copper.

From Sypes Canyon, Bozeman MT—where we raised the kids and built my studio. We’d walk the neighborhood loop. This was the view.

The Bridgers out back, the foothills catching that last light before it slips off for the night.

These larger copper pieces led me into building the work out a bit differently. The painting is set in a border frame made from patinaed copper angle, punctuated with copper boat nails. It felt right to finish the piece with the same material it’s painted on—something a little more permanent, a little more tied to the land.
